Artist Bio:
New York based, multimedia artist Matt Margolis utilizes a background in photography, illustration, sculpture and film to create a wide array of cartoonish, colorful, and surreal pieces. He draws his inspiration from numerous sources, particularly contemporary artists, video games, literature, and movies but more than anything, an intuitive sense of exploration that guides his creative decisions and experimentation. Currently pursuing the Emerging Media BFA at UCF under the experimental animation track; Margolis aims to combine his multiple disciplines into cohesive, wildly eclectic mixed media animations that mirror the varied styles of his still work.
Artist Statement:
My entire life, I have always had love for all mediums of art. So much so, that I refuse to contain myself to any single one. Photography, illustration sculpture, etc.; It is my goal to seamlessly interweave them to form surrealistic dreamscapes to get lost in. I prefer to leave my works up to interpretation but if nothing else, I want my pieces evoke a strong feeling from my audience. Shock, tranquility, confusion, warmth, whatever it may be. My works are as varied as my mediums and I hope that they elicit an equally varied response.
