Artist Bio:

Reese Miles is a current visual arts management student at the University of Central Florida, and is a recent graduate of Valencia College with her AA and AS degrees, as well as three published pieces in the school's arts magazine. She has always been attracted to the arts and technology, so when the opportunity came to marry the two she took the chance and began an artistic career in digital media. Her influences in her work primarily come from history, such as her collection of photos from the 50s70s that serve as the subject of many mixed media pieces she has created. In more recent works, she has shifted her focus to capturing pieces of history that remain today, like the brutalist structures in Orlando that remain from the late 20th century. Overall her attitude towards creating art is to accomplish something exciting for the eye while remembering the days of years past.

Artist Statement:

In my work I attempt to create pieces visually stimulating with subjects that induce a feeling of nostalgia for the past. In the case of this subject, I wanted to capture brutalist architectural life around Orlando from the mid to late 20th century that I have come to greatly admire. As I went around Orlando collecting photos of these "concrete castles" in the heat of the Florida summer, I gained an appreciation for these structures that have remained a part of the Orlando community for over fifty years, yet continue to serve their purpose unlike other structures today.
