Artist Bio:
Stacie Becker received her Bachelor of the Arts from UCF in 2023, and is currently a UCF Master of Fine Art graduate student with an expected graduation date of May 2026. Stacie plans to pursue a profession in collegiate-level teaching in the art field, as well as continue her art practice through national and international exhibitions.
Artist Statement:
I believe there is a muted space that lies between a person’s individuality and their sense of belonging as it pertains to Western societal norms. My practice questions how this space affects one’s identity through the use of symbolism, color palettes, materials, and psychological theories. My work questions how we view ourselves, how we view others, and how our own familiarities influence the ways in which we interact with each other. Through these visual essays, I aim to not only question my own experiences with individuality versus a sense of belonging but to encourage the viewer to question their experiences as well.
